Course Description
Start Date: January 29 (Every Wednesday Evening) February 5, 12,19, 2025 and March 12 Excluding dates: February 26 2025 and March 05 2025 (Sculptures drying time) Finish Date: March 12 2025 Time: 6:00 Pm - 8:30 Pm Instructor: Shahrzad Amin Session Duration: 5 sessions of 2.5 hours Unleash your creativity by crafting a distinctive clay bust using the slab building technique, and explore the art of expression, character, and the human figure. Body language, and expression bring vitality to sculpture, and clay serves as the perfect medium for this artistic exploration. Over 5 class sessions, participants will merge ceramic construction techniques with traditional modeling to explore both naturalism and abstraction to create their desired human figure. In this course, Shahrzad teaches you how to hand-sculpt and glaze a hollow ceramic bust using the slab building technique. You'll learn the foundations of building a three-dimensional form and delve into anatomy, gesture, and expression to animate your sculpture. Witness how slabs of clay can transform into a true masterpiece. This course includes everything you need to create your pieces. Instruction, equipment, clay, tools, glaze and firing. Who is this class for? Bust Sculpture is for adults 18 years and older. This course is for you if you have an interest in building on your previous clay experience and are wanting to increase your sculpting skills. Students are expected to have an understanding of clay construction basics like clay attachment methods, and knowledge of common issues like cracking and air bubbles in clay. How long is each session? 2.5 Hours with clean up included. What do I make? In this class you explore expression, character, and the human figure by constructing a unique clay bust using the slab building technique. Hot Tips Jewellery might get in the way. Bring an apron or an old T-shirt. Bring your inspiration [pictures, sketches, your Pinterest board, etc.] Bring a plastic bin or bucket to collect your clay for recycling. Picking Up Your Work The piece will fire before the last session of the class and participants will glaze it in the last session and they will finish the piece for the second firing. Then the piece can be picked up 2-3 weeks after the completion of the course.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be made in writing by email to info@beyondpottery.ca Cancellations will be subject to the following: -Cancellations within 14 days of the start date will be charged the full course fee. -Cancellations within 15-28 days of the start date will be charged 50% of the course fee. -If the participant fails to attend the course the full course fees are payable. Terms and Conditions -Courses are for Adults 18+ unless otherwise stated -All courses are non-refundable -We require at least two week advance notice to reschedule a course, regardless of the date of booking. -There are no partial refunds for missed classes.
