Course Description

Discover the art of handbuilding—no pottery wheel required! This fun and creative 4-week summer mini course is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to try pottery without the commitment of a full-length class. You’ll learn techniques like slab building, coiling, and pinching to craft functional and decorative pieces entirely by hand. You’ll also learn the basics of glazing to add colour and finish to your creations. It’s a great way to explore clay in a relaxed, supportive environment—and take home your own unique, glazed pieces. Course Details: 🗓️ Start Date: July 4 until July 25 2025 Friday Evenings, once a week, for 2 hours, over 4 weeks ⏰ Time: 6pm - 8pm 📍 Location: Beyond Pottery, Burlington, ON 👩‍🏫 Instructor: Yvette Garcia-Mier 👥 Suitable for: Complete beginners—no prior experience needed 🎨 Includes: Clay, tools, glazes, and kiln firings What You’ll Learn: ✔️ Introduction to clay and its properties ✔️ Essential handbuilding techniques: pinching, coiling, and slab building ✔️ Creating functional and decorative pottery like bowls, mugs, and plates ✔️ Surface decoration techniques, including textures, stamping, and glazing Who Can Join? This workshop is perfect for complete beginners, aged 18 and up. For younger participants, reach out to inquire about teen and children’s courses. Pro Tips for Success: ✨ Avoid wearing jewelry or having long nails—they can get in the way ✨ Bring an apron or an old t-shirt and a towel Pick-Up Information: Your pieces will typically be fired during the course. You can collect finished works during sessions or after the course ends. We’ll notify you by email when everything is ready.
