Course Description

Start Date: March 27, 2025 Finish Date: April 1, 2025 Time: 6pm - 8pm THURSDAY evenings, once a week, for 2 hours, over a six week period Instructor: Lauren In this 6 week course, students will learn various sculpting techniques to create animals and objects from nature. Students are encouraged to bring their own inspiration! During this course students will make both functional and non functional ceramic works! We will start off with pinch technique to create vessels inspired by natural forms like seed pods and coral. In the remainder of the course, students will be guided in how to build a sculpture of an animal or object from nature using the solid build technique. Each student will have the opportunity to decorate their works using colored slips, stains, and or glazes. We provide all tools and materials needed to create your ceramic art just bring your creativity and an open mind! Who is this class for? This workshop is intended for adults 18+. Beginners are welcome as well as those who want to build on previous clay building skills. How long is the course? The course takes place over 6 weeks and each session is 2 hours including clean up. What do I make? A couple small vessels inspired by natural forms (for example: coral, seed pods, fungi) and a sculpture of an animal or object from nature. Pick Up Works can take up to 3 weeks to process (first to dry, then to bisque fire and after glaze fire). We email students when their works are ready for pick up! Hot Tips Jewellery might get in the way. Bring an apron or an old T-shirt. Bring your inspiration [pictures, sketches, your Pinterest board, etc.] Bring a plastic bin or bucket to collect your clay for recycling.
