About the Project

The Harmony in Cultures celebrates cultural diversity through art. Each participant creates a hand-shaped clay piece, incorporating personal designs, motifs, and symbols inspired by their heritage. Together, these hands form a beautiful installation of a bigger hand that reflects the connections and shared values within our diverse community.

Through this project, we’ll be celebrating cultural diversity and unity, creating collaborative ceramic installations that highlights the beauty of different heritages and personal stories of each municipality in the Halton region.

Workshops

In the hands-on workshops, each participant will receive a slab of clay to trace their hand. After cutting out the hand shape, you will have the opportunity to decorate it with unique motifs, patterns, and designs that reflect your cultural heritage or personal values.

You are encouraged to explore and incorporate traditional decorations, symbols, or themes that resonate with your identity, making each piece a personal expression. As examples of cultural reference, you can incorporate traditional motifs, patterns, symbols, or even drawings of food, animals, plants, and architectural elements that reflect your identity. Various colored clays will be available, ensuring that each creation is as unique as the individual behind it.

Everyone is welcome to join us, no experience is necessary. All materials and tools are provided.

Please note: Space is limited to 60 participants per location, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Installation

These unique hand-shaped pieces will be fired and glazed, then combined into 4 larger single hand installations in each municipality.  Look out for details of the unveiling at each municipality.

After Installation

Participants will have the opportunity to collect their hand to keep as a personal memento. Each hand is a unique creation, reflecting your cultural heritage and personal story, and we want you to take it home as a lasting reminder of your contribution to this collaborative artwork.

Collection details will be shared on our dedicated Harmony in Cultures project page.
