Course Description
Handbuilding is a pottery technique where we shape clay by hand, rather than using a potters wheel. This method allows for greater creativity and freedom, as it involves various techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab-building to form unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. In this course we'll be focusing on creating functional ware—pieces that are not only beautiful but also practical for everyday use. Course Details: 🗓️ Start Date: March 23 until April 27 2026. Every Monday Evenings for 2 hours, over 6 weeks ⏰ Time: 6:30 - 8:30 (PM) 📍 Location: Beyond Pottery, Burlington, ON 👩🏫 Instructor: Shahrzad Amin 👥 Suitable for: Complete Beginners 🎨 Includes: Clay, tools, glazes, and kiln firings What You’ll Learn: ✔️ Introduction to clay and its properties ✔️ Essential handbuilding techniques: pinching, coiling, and slab building ✔️ Creating functional pieces like bowls, jugs, mugs, and plates ✔️ Surface decoration techniques, including textures, stamping, transfers, sgraffito, glazing and more. Who Can Join? This course is perfect for complete beginners, ages 16 and up. No prior experience is needed—just bring your creativity and curiosity! Pro Tips for Success: ✨ Avoid wearing jewelry or having long nails—they can get in the way ✨ Bring an apron or an old t-shirt and a towel Pick-Up Information: Your pieces will typically be fired during the course. You can collect finished works during sessions or after the course ends. We’ll notify you by email when everything is ready.
