Course Description
Elevate your pottery with this engaging 6-week Surface Decoration Course! Perfect for handbuilders, wheel throwers, or anyone interested in enhancing their ceramic work with creative finishes. Over six weeks, you'll explore a wide range of techniques to add texture, colour, and depth to your pieces — from carving and stamping to painting, layering, and surface patterning. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the key differences between coloured slips, oxides, underglazes, and glazes, learning how and when to use each medium effectively. Details: 🗓️ Start Date: September 17 until October 22 2026 2 hours, once a week for 6 weeks. ⏰ Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm 📍 Location: Beyond Pottery, Burlington, ON 👩🏫 Instructor: Yvette Garcia-Mier 🎨 Includes: Clay, tools, glazes, and kiln firings What You’ll Learn Over six weeks, students will explore a wide range of ceramic surface decoration techniques, learning how to add texture, colour, pattern, and depth to their work. Techniques include carving, sgraffito, stamping, impressing, Mishima, faceting, slip trailing, marbling, transfers, oxide washes, resist techniques, screen printing and more... Pro Tips for Success: ✨ Avoid wearing jewelry or having long nails, they can get in the way ✨ Bring an apron or an old t-shirt and a towel Pick-Up Information: Your pieces will typically be fired during the course. Finished works can be collected during sessions or 3-4 weeks after the course ends. We’ll notify you by email when your creations are ready for pick-up.
