Course Description
Our 6-week Beginner Wheel Throwing Course is designed for anyone eager to learn the art of throwing on the pottery wheel. This course will guide you through the essential wheel-throwing techniques step by step. Over six weeks, you’ll learn how to center clay, open and pull walls, shape forms, trim your pieces, and prepare them for glazing and firing. With plenty of hands-on practice and instructor guidance, you’ll gain the confidence and skills needed to create your own functional handmade pottery on the wheel. Course Details: 🗓️ Start Date: September 16 until October 21 2026 Wednesday mornings, once a week, for 2 hours, over 6 weeks ⏰ Time: 10:30 - 12:30pm 📍 Location: Beyond Pottery, Burlington, ON 👩🏫 Instructor: Cas Bolland 👥 Suitable for: Complete beginners, no prior experience needed 🎨 Includes: Clay, tools, glazes, and kiln firings What You’ll Learn: ✔️ Everything you need to know about clay ✔️ Centering and shaping clay on the wheel ✔️ Creating basic forms like bowls and cylinders ✔️ Trimming and refining your pottery ✔️ Glazing and surface decorating techniques to add color and finish your pieces Who Can Join? This workshop is perfect for complete beginners, aged 16 and up. For younger participants, reach out to inquire about teen and children’s courses. Pro Tips for Success: ✨ Avoid wearing jewelry or having long nails—they can get in the way ✨ Bring an apron or an old t-shirt and a towel Pick-Up Information: Your pieces will typically be fired during the course. You can collect finished works during sessions or after the course ends. We’ll notify you by email when everything is ready. *Please note due to limited space we can only hold your pieces for 3 weeks after we've sent you our "pick up" notification.* After that time period Beyond Pottery is not responsible for keeping your works.
